VISITING RAPALLO

The historic Villa Tigullio was built by the Spinola family as a residence and bulwark on the sea. In front of its windows lies a large lawn, open to the incomparable scenery of the Tigullio Gulf and the sea, on which the profile of the Portofino promontory stands out. The Villa is surrounded by the Casale Park, rich in rare species of plants and various classes of birds, and can be reached in a few minutes from the Hotel Canali. It currently houses two of the most important cultural realities of the city of Rapallo: the Lace Museum, on the ground floor and underground rooms, and the International Library, on the first and second floors.

The Auditorium delle Clarisse Theater occupies what was once the church of the Clarisse monastic complex, dating back to 1633, which was a cloistered monastery of the Order of Santa Chiara da Montefalco until 1902. Even at the origin, it tells the story of the building, the place had served as a theater. It turns out that after the church was finished in 1688, it was used for three years, until 1691, for that kind of similarities or sacred representations then in vogue. The Auditorium Theater today proposes itself as one of the most rational multipurpose centers capable of hosting congress and spectacular events such as prose, cinema, concerts. Inside, a section is dedicated to the Attilio and Cleofe Gaffoglio Museum.

Villa Queirolo is one of the many historic residential villas in the town of Rapallo, built during the Belle Époque of the late nineteenth century. It is located at the mouth of the Boate stream, right at the beginning of the Via Aurelia Ovest, at the point where the road divides towards Recco and Genoa on one side and Santa Margherita and Portofino on the other. Over the years it has been home to city schools, up to the restoration and adaptation works that have transformed it into the “House of Culture” of the Municipality of Rapallo. It is currently home to the two city academies, the Cultural Academy and the Aesthetic Academy, as well as a multifunctional structure for conferences and courses held by various city associations.
